What is all the buzz about Intuitive Eating?
Have you heard the buzz words: Intuitive Eating? Have you been curious as to what that is all about? Are you thinking it is some kind of new trending diet? If you think it is some kind of diet, you couldn't be more further from the truth.
Intuitive Eating is kinder, gentler, and more sustainable.
In my Lifestyle Medicine practice, I work with many clients regarding their nutrition. Nutrition is such a vital component to our health. I feel teaching each person about what calories and macro nutrients like protein, fats, and carbohydrates their body truly needs is critical. Most importantly, I also understand for most of us we do not want to be counting calories or macros everyday for the rest of our lives. We do need the basic nutritional understanding before we can move into Intuitive Eating, but this is our ultimate goal.
Intuitive Eating was first coined by registered dietician Evelyn Tribole and nutrition therapist Elyse Resch.
There are over 125 studies that explore intuitive eating and most found that intuitive eating is associated with:
Positive body image and self-esteem
Lower rates of disordered eating
Higher general well-being
